The exhibition O SEGREDO DAS NUVENS (The Secret of the Clouds) presents marionettes, sets and objects belonging to six of the plays directed by João Paulo Seara Cardoso (1956-2010), distributed by two museum floors, and also the exhibition MIM, by Júlio Vanzeler, featuring the artist’s experience as a regular collaborator of Teatro de Marionetas do Porto. The selected works inhabit the space and create a new possibility of existence outside the theatrical space. In the first floor, children will enjoy the pelicans and penguins big beach,
Óscar’s house garden and the surroundings of Joanica Puff’s home. On the second floor, the objects from the performances Paisagem Azul Com Automóveis, Nada ou o Silêncio de Beckett and O Princípio do Prazer are part of an aesthetic idea of a dreamy and fantastic dimension, as if they were teasing our ways of seeing a new world order. They are impossible creatures, living a secret life, one in which the wind and the clouds enter the museum’s windows and doors, and there are incomplete bodies looking for new meaning.

These twelve images are part of the result of a period of sixteen years working with Teatro de Marionetas do Porto. In these images, the characters of several plays cross and trade places, sketched once again by the remaining memories of the workshops, the conversations, the learning moments, the pleasure of shared time with everyone but especially with Seara Cardoso, whose words sketched many of these characters.
