Make Love Not War
This is the title of the 3rd anniversary exhibition and also the title of a big street performance staged by João Paulo Seara Cardoso (1956-2010), Make Love Not War (2010) from Lysistrata, a play against war written by Aristophanes.
The exaltation, the nonconformity, the desire for beauty through theatre with marionettes, are the motto for this exhibition that consists of a few pieces of Make Love Not War (2010), Polegarzinho (2002), Miséria (1991), Teatro D. Roberto (1988), O Senhor… (2012) and Alice no País das Maravilhas (1997).
In addition to the marionettes, objects and posters, we can also witness part of the building process of the marionettes, and understand some of the work that precedes each performance.
In the Gallery there is an exhibition of José Manuel Gigante, in which we can see the architectural projects created for Teatro de Marionetas do Porto. One of those is the Teatro de Belomonte which received an Honorable Mention (1993) in the category of rehabilitation, under the National Architecture Prize.
Museu das Marionetas do Porto is an author museum, centered on the work of João Paulo Seara Cardoso (1956-2010), it’s a place of memory and future, constantly being updated, and with the particularity of being a museum closely related with the theatre company Teatro de Marionetas do Porto.
